NEW SOUTH WALES Golf Tour
Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club
Located in the beautiful wine district of the Hunter Valley, Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club is a picturesque 6487-metre par 72, 18 hole championship golf course featuring pristine fairways, manicured greens and a unique layout. Unveiled in 1992, Cypress Lakes was designed by Steve Smyers of Florida.
Each tee and green offers stunning panoramic views of the Hunter Valley's famous vineyards and the surrounding Brokenback mountain range. The championship layout boasts dramatic fairway shapes and elevation changes, 60 strategically located bunkers and generous greens that are in superb condition year round.
There's something to be said about a course that welcomes you with open arms. In a world where attracting clientele to your course is an ongoing battle, the friendly folk at The Vintage are onto a winner. This is indeed a club that caters for everyone, yet does so without losing its true and original identity, that being one of the country's premier resort golf courses.
The highlight of the course is the 8th, a 194-metre par 3 that's rated by legendary club pro-Richard Mercer as one of the finest par 3s in the world. It's a beauty, if not a beast. The secret here is to not be too greedy, aim for the middle of the green, take the water on the right and bunkers on the left out of play, settle for two good putts and sprint to the next tee minus any damage to your scorecard or ego.
The course conditioning should also be commended. Lush green couch fairways inspire confidence on approach shots but are hard enough to provide sufficient run from the tee. The rugged bunkers are a signature golf Norman's ethos - tall and intimidating but with an ideal amount of sand to reward solid strikes.
Cessnock Golf Club
Cessnock Golf Club is the Hunter Valley's newest 18 hole golf course. Designed by local golfing legend Jack Newton, this par 72 layout offers unique challenges to all golfing enthusiasts. Test your short game skills on the toughest greens in the Hunter Valley.
The course's signature 18th hole features a challenging par three playing over a tranquil lake, as well as the stone bridge directing golfers over the water and onto a picturesque green. Perfection to a tee.

Newcastle Golf Club
Newcastle Golf Club, only a two-hour drive from Sydney, is one of the hidden gems in world golf. It has an ingredient common to many great courses; it is unique and reminds one of no other course.
In keeping with most courses designed during the golden age of golf course design, the architects left the land as the found it. Little earth was moved, save in the building up of some of the green pads especially the one at the first hole. The dunes that continuously roll across the property aren't massive in scales like the ones at Ballybunion or Lahinch. Rather they range from ten to thirty feet, a size that lends itself to good golf qualities. Drives that aren't hit straight and true tend to leave the golfer with a blind or semi-blind approach shot from an awkward angle.
From the opening tee shot to the last putt, all aspects of the golfer's game are challenged while he enjoys an uninterrupted walk through land unspoiled by man's hand. The thoughtful golfer who keeps his ball in play off the tee and underneath the hole on his approach finds around at Newcastle to be one of the most satisfying exercises in course management that the game offers.

The thinking golfer will really enjoy Magenta Shores. Built on a deep sand base and shaped in the spirit of the famous Scottish Links courses, Magenta Shores will call golfers to use their imagination and every club in their bag.
From the bak tees, the course stretches to around 6300 metres with a par of 72. The front nine winds its way to the beach with eye-catching views, whilst not being long, accuracy off the tee is imperative if the local winds are up. Huge established trees line most fairways with lush, soft fairways giving mostly perfect lies throughout the course with equally good, true greens.

This inspiring layout is bounded by water on three sides and has many of the characteristics of true links golf.
Occasionally benign and at the mercy of the young guns, this sleeping giant with its undulating fairways and small greens, calls for great skill in shotmaking when the sea breezes blow. It has been written that golf had its origins on unique seascapes similar to this one, where the wind is a dominating factor and the direction from which it blows making any of the eighteen holes comparatively easy or extremely difficult.
